Our take
Verizon Wi-Fi Backup suits a household whose main internet comes from any provider, since it does not need an existing customer account, and which can accept switching by hand. Its standby cost is listed at $30 a month, with $20 or $25 conditional on Auto Pay and a Verizon mobile plan. Spectrum Invincible WiFi and Frontier Unbreakable Wi-Fi switch automatically and need their own internet service, and Frontier is cheaper at $25 a month. The catch is that data is unlimited only on seven 24-hour periods a month, and failover is not automatic.
